Children encouraged to audition
for White County Christmas Concert
Children from second to ninth grade are invited to audition for a special Christmas variety show produced by the Carmi Chamber of Commerce as part of “It’s a White County Christmas.” The concert will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 26 at the middle school in Carmi, and will also feature the traditional joint children’s concert as well as individual performances.
Judy Mae Bingman is coordinating this year’s concert. Hyla Lamp, Carmi White County school music instructor will direct the 100-member joint choir while Bingman will select and coordinate the variety show.
Auditions will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 24 at the Emmanuel United Methodist Church chapel.
“Youth should come prepared to present a 3- to 5- minute musical presentation,” Bingman said. “We prefer the youth audition with the song they’ll be performing in the concert,” she added, “but if there isn’t sufficient time to prepare a Christmas number, the kids can audition with any musical selection.
“We’re looking for cute, unusual adaptations of Christmas favorites as well as new, current hits,” Bingman said. If a costume is important to the act, then youth should come prepared for everything they may use or need for their finished performance.
Only youth wishing to perform a special number should attend. No auditions are needed for the joint choir participants. Students in grades second through fifth will receive their choir invitation in early November.
To register for auditions, one must call Bingman at 618-384-9697 before Oct. 24. Please indicate when you call if you will be using a CD, tape or will need an accompanist. Participants are encouraged to bring their own accompanist if possible, but one will be provided if needed.
Talent may include vocal or instrumental Christmas music, as well as dance, drama or comedy presentations.
